Ellsworth Woodward was born July 14, 1861, in Seeconk, Mass., and was educated at the Rhode Island School of Design. He was appointed professor of art at Tulane University in 1885. When the Newcomb College was organized, he became director of the Art School, and held this position until his retirement in 1931. He was one of the founders of the New Orleans Art Association, and was active in the Southern States Art League and the Louisiana Art Teachers' Association. An artist himself, his etchings...

Sadie Irvine, born in New Orleans in 1887, became a student at Newcomb College at age fifteen, received her diploma in art in 1906, and served as an instructor in pottery and other arts, until her retirement in 1952. She was a student and colleague of Ellsworth Woodward. She produced and taught pottery design, drawing in watercolor and pastel, and print-making. Sadie Irvine died in 1970.
